Place: Footlight Club
Address: 7A Eliot Street
Neighborhood: Jamaica Plain
On October 25, 2013, I began my inspection of Jamaica Plain. I started at Forest Hills and walked up South Street and Centre Street, along the route of the 39 bus and the former "E" Green Line streetcar line. Up at the center of Jamaica Plain at Monument Square, there are many notable buildings including Eliot Hall, which is used as the Footlight Club. To visit, ride bus route 38, 39 or 41 to Jamaica Plain Center.
"A center of the Jamaica Plain community for more than a century, the Footlight Club was founded in 1877 to "furnish pleasant and useful entertainment by the aid of drama." In 1878 the Footlight Club moved to Eliot Hall, where it continues to perform as the oldest community theater company in the United States."
